Imported from San Diego California in 2008 (Still a left hand side drive vehicle.) where it had undergone a full restoration in 2003. This "Samba" as they are known has been very lovingly cared for since it has been in Australia. Only used for the occasional weddings, and after spending nearly 6 months in the Tasmanian Automobile Museum this bus is ready to find it's new home. Upon arrival in Australia, it was full reupholstered using TMI Products that was fully imported from the US (as the original items were not original style) and the top half of the bus was repainted in it's factory hue. All new window rubbers were fitted at this point. The Jailbars are also still in place. The Golde Ragtop Mechanism was also restored with new tracks and bushes. Mechanically the original engine was replaced at a cost of $7500 and sports Twin carburettors and a displacement of 2053cc. An external oil cooler has also been fitted for piece of mind. The gearbox is a professionally rebuilt "freeway flyer" and is mated to the original reduction hubs. All brakes are in good operational condition. An after-market stereo has been discretely fitted and a NOS 8 track Stereo has also been sourced from the UK. The original radio and Deluxe clock are still in place in the dashboard. The Bus is rolling on Pirelli White-Wall tyres and genuine Volkswagen Hubcaps and are in very good condition. The red section of the bus presents well with only a few minor blemishes in the lower nose and around the rear cooling vents (see photos.) This bus is ready to jump in and cruise, and i would have no hesitations in jumping in and driving to Darwin tommorow. A reliable headturning cruiser. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch, inspections are welcome. Please note the registration is non-transferable however if sold in Tasmania it will have a current roadworthy certificate. Included in the cost is shipping to Melbourne.
