:“Finished in Springtime Yellow, a 1965 color, the car’s paint and trim are in overall great condition with some minor imperfections. The body panels are straight, the car’s engine bay is extremely tidy and the yellow Optima battery looks new while the cargo area is in very good order and complete with full-size spare tire mounted in a steel wheel and a spare tire cover. The chrome bumpers are in very good shape, too. Inside, the car retains its original black vinyl interior (code 26). The black buckets in front and rear bench are in great shape, as are the matching carpet and headliner. A three-spoke, rim blow steering wheel faces the driver but the horn is inoperable. The black instrument panel and inner door panels look great. A pair of cupholders straddle the driveshaft tunnel behind the floor-mounted shift lever. A Custom Sound AM/FM stereo rests above the vintage air-conditioning vents (but the A/C clutch is not engaging).”

Nineteen sixty-five was the first full year of Ford Mustang production and the first time new bodystyle was offered, the 2+2 fastback. This example was made in Ford’s Dearborn, Michigan factory (VIN code F) on December 18, 1964, about four months after 2+2 production began. Unlike lot of Ponies, this example has the up-level 289 V-8 mated to an upgraded five-speed manual transmission, which is the equation for lot of driving fun. The fastback has had the same loving New Mexico owner since 2016.

The body panels are straight, the car’s engine bay is extremely tidy and the yellow Optima battery looks new while the cargo area is in very good order and complete with full-size spare tire mounted in steel wheel and spare tire cover. The chrome bumpers are in very good shape, too.
This horse rolls on Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires, size 235/60R15 in the back, and Cooper ES3 Touring radials, size 205/60R15 in the front. Each pair of Coopers are mounted on five-spoke American Racing alloy wheels. The tires all have great tread depth while the wheels are in very good order.
Under the hood is 289 CID Windsor V-8 engine (VIN code A) with extra strut bracing in the bay. Mated to the motor is an upgraded five-speed manual transmission backed by locking 3.25:1 rear differential. Driver convenience features include vintage air-conditioning and power brakes with Wilwood front discs.
Inside, the car retains its original black vinyl interior (code 26). The black buckets in front and rear bench are in great shape, as are the matching carpet and headliner. three-spoke, rim blow steering wheel faces the driver but the horn is inoperable. The black instrument panel and inner door panels look great. pair of cupholders straddle the driveshaft tunnel behind the floor-mounted shift lever. Custom Sound AM/FM stereo rests above the vintage air-conditioning vents (but the A/C clutch is not engaging) with set of ancillary gauges, coolant temp, volts and oil pressure, housed between two air vents.
Several changes to the Mustang occurred at the start of the “normal” 1965 model year in August 1964, four months after its introduction. These cars are known as “late 65s.” The engine lineup was changed, with 200 CID “T-code” engine. Production of the Fairlane’s “F-code” 260 CID engine ceased when the 1964 model year ended. It was replaced with new “C-code” 289 CID engine with the same two-barrel carburetor as the base V-8. An “A-code” four-barrel carbureted version was next in line, followed by the unchanged 289 Hi-Po “K-code” equipped with four-barrel Autolite 4100 carburetor. The DC electrical generator was replaced by new AC alternator on all Fords (a way to distinguish 1964 from 1965 is to see if the alternator light on the dash says “GEN” or “ALT”).
A “Fastback 2+2” Mustang, first manufactured on August 17, 1964, enclosed the trunk space under sweeping exterior line similar to the second series Corvette Sting Ray and European sports cars such as the Jaguar E-Type coupe.
Competition to this Mustang in 1965 included Chevrolet’s Chevy II Nova and Corvair Corsa, Dodge’s Dart GT, Ford’s Falcon Futura and Plymouth’s Barracuda.
Ford fans and Mustang fans should drop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to check out this 1965 Mustang 2+2. With Mustang fervor as popular now as it was in the mid-1960s, it won’t be long before someone else stops in to buy it.
