Chevy loyalists revere Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, car dealer named Don Yenko. Yenko had deserved reputation for driving, building, and selling dominating Chevrolets, starting in '65 with well-crafted super Corvairs. He advanced to installing 427ci Corvette V-8s in '67 and '68 Camaros, performing 118 of the transplants. These $4,200 ponies ran in the low 13's right off his shop floor.And quite as rare, and not nearly as valuable as the original but this one has some superpower under the hood...a consigner stated 540ci V8 with lots of goodies much like the original. You can even drive this one every day as it can sit in traffic and god forbid if something happens just get it fixed. All wrapped up and looking amazingly just like the original, and when shown with the original was frequently mistaken for it.Exterior
With this unassuming original Camaro look, you may pass it right by, however upon closer inspection, that Daytona Yellow in beautiful condition, miles deep and buffed to perfection, sports some correct Yenko stickers in the form of Yenko Diamond on the front of the hood, and dual racing stripes going to the windshield, ending in cowl induction hood over top of 4-barrel Holly carb directly underneath. Also, black side spear sticker, starting at the front quarter, and racing rearward widens at the rear quarter with more Yenko badging, ending upward framing rear spoiler. Noted are some areas of where body filler has been used particularly on the lower rear quarter panels, around the wheel well areas. Some rust bubbling is noted in the lower quarters. beautiful black vinyl top is on and has nice chromed trimmings surrounding the glass. Chrome bumpers are excellent, dual poles peek out from under the rear, and on all corners are 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels. note to the grille which is egg crate style. Also, one slight difference from the original are the presence of trio of black and chrome vertical fake vents in front of each rear wheel well.Interior
Fully restored it is hard to find any fault on this interior. Nice black door panels have shiny cranks and nifty rectangular Camaro badge in the center. Beautiful buckets sporting the SYC logo on the headrests, draped in black vinyl float in sea of unmarked nice black carpet. Racing between the bucket seats is pristine black console with Hurst shifter poking its wand out to stir the gears and heads up quad display of gauges to monitor various vehicle and engine functions. simple dash hangs above said console and sports an AM/FM radio, 140mph speedometer, factory tachometer, and working clock. fairly tight headliner hangs above and displays well.Drivetrain
A consigner stated 540 Cubes made from Dart Block with forged crank, rods and pistons. Hanging on to each side are Iron Eagle cast iron heads, and on top GM Winters Foundry intake fed by 4-barrel Holley 780 CFM carburetor. On the rear is 12-bolt 3.55 geared Moser pro comp limited slip differential and Moser 35 Spline axles. Exhaust is evacuated via pair of Hooker headers and stock style muffler.Undercarriage
Stunningly clean and beautiful underneath with jet black frame and floorpans rust free suspension, and like new dual exhaust. Independent coil springs suspension for the front, and leaf springs for the rear. Power disc brakes are up front, and power drums are on the rear.Drive-Ability
This car is handful for sure and compounding that is gas pedal with an extremely short throw. So its either slow or fast go and nearly nothing in-between. The car accelerated at breakneck pace and stops nicely. We noted that the horn doesn't work, and radio reception is astounding.We want another one just like the other one, and we have both an original and clone, very difficult to tell each one from the other, until you look under the hood! This one with more power, and slight body molding changes, but very well-done clone of Yenko Camaro.VIN Decode
