For Sale is our Beetle 2.0 Auto in Black.
Welcome to our auction for our Volkswagen 2.0 Auto in Black. It is being sold as spares and repairs so please read the description in full before bidding as it does have fault with the gearbox. will consider any sensible offers.
On the surface she is lovely looking car but it does have fault. We recently purchased this car from trader near Dorchester with it being advertised as in good condition with new MOT and on the surface it appeared to be so. Having looked at the car and taken it for short test drive, it drove very well the engine nice and smooth and good gear changes. Having agreed to the sale and collecting the car, we got around 10 miles up the road with the engine nice and hot and the transmission started playing up hence selling it for spares and repairs. also discovered upon looking in the paperwork in more detail that he had in fact not re-MOTd the car as agreed and it does run out in early May 2016I will now describe the car in good detail so any prospective buyers can make their minds up as to whether it is for them or not.Mechanically, aside from the aforementioned fault the car appears to be in good order. It starts on the button every time and is lovely and quiet with no nasty rattles or smoke of any kind. She pulls really well and accelerates readily with no hesitation. She has no warning lights on the dash at all which is quite rare on these beetles which all seem to have their little gremlins. Transmission wise, when the engine is cold it drives really beautifully with good clean changes up and down the box and it readily kicks down and accelerates well. Reverse gear works as it should. The fault previously mentioned is that when the transmission gets hot after approximately miles it starts to play up. Namely it will pull away ok from stationary but when it goes to change into 2nd or 3rd gear, it seemingly slips in so far as it builds up the revs and then jumps into gear and will then pick up speed as normal. found that by feathering the throttle slightly it would change the characteristics of the fault. Since getting the car home having been ignored by the trader, had it to gearbox specialist who in the first instance changed the gearbox fluid and filters which helped but did not cure the fault. then went down the road of having the torque convertor solenoid and valve replace with yet more new fluid and another filter. This has again improved it tenfold but the fault still persists. finally went down the road of adding Lucas Fluid Additive which has again improved it massively but am aware that the underlying cause is still there and the fault still therefore remains. have the receipts for the work we have had completed. have been advised that the nature of the fault is such that it seems as though the 'torque convertor lock up clutch' is the offending article (not that that means anything to me) but the only way to resolve the fault would be to either strip down the 'valve chest' or strip down the whole gearbox not something have the knowledge to do and given that we paid good money for this car we have totally lost heart with it having been taken for ride by rogue trader who is now being chased by trading standards with view to prosecuting him and closing him down. do have receipt with the service history which states that the gearbox did have full rebuild in 2010 at 60k so it may well be simple fix for someone who knows what they are doing£
Moving on from that, the suspension seems nice and firm with no untoward knocks or bangs. The brakes work well and it appears to have new pads on it. It does have slight vibration when braking at very low speeds so it may need set of discs but these are relatively inexpensive having checked the usual motor factors online. She has good tyres fitted with very recent ones and she steers well with no apparent issues with the tracking or tyre wear.
Interior wise she has everything and it all seems to work! electric tilt and slide roof which works well, electric windows, black leather seats front and rear with the fronts being heated, original cassette radio with fully working multi-changer in the boot, electric mirrors. We had already purchased new set of red trimmed floor mats prior to purchasing her and these will be included in the sale. There are some marks and wear in places on the interior but this is to be expected on car of this age and its nothing that couldn't be easily resolved with little time and effort as we had planned to do. The only things am aware of interior wise which give any issue are that the electric remote boot release on the drivers door does not work and occasionally when unlocking the car using the remote key, she can relock herself unless the engine has been switched on. am advised this is very common on new beetles and is micro-switch in the door lock again pence to buy and relatively straight forward repair which had planned to do had we been keeping her.Exterior wise the black looks amazing when she is cleaned up. There are the usual scratches and marks as to be expected for her age. Most notable is the rear bumper is little faded but we were planning to either have it professionally polished or resprayed but from short distance she still looks pretty good. We had purchased new wheel centre emblems prior to collecting her and these will be included in the sale. All of the exterior lights work as they should and she has new wiper blades fitted. There is large chip in the passenger side of the screen so this may need repairing before the MOT.Paperwork wise now finally have the log book in my name having had to apply with the new keepers supplement due to the selling trader not sending it off to DVLA. also have the original book pack with service book last stamped at 88k in 2013. There are also quite few receipts for servicing and work carried out in the past giving quite comprehensive history. There is one flip key with the car which works locking and unlocking remotely. In short, am sure this has the basis to be fantastic car if you've got the know how and expertise. We had been looking to buy an older new shape beetle as they are fast becoming modern classic and in the region we live in the Beetle scene is huge with so many events to go to. We have just had all of the fun taken out of our purchase by an unscrupulous individual and have just decided that we want it gone now.I have tried to describe this car including its faults in as much detail as possible but will gladly answer any questions you may have and will gladly accept any viewings by prior arrangement. would recommend trailering or towing the car away unless you live within the locality. If you choose to drive it away then you do so knowing the fault present and at your own risk. am quite willing to take prospective buyer on road test and fully demonstrate the fault. Please note that you are bidding to buy and if you do win the auction would ideally like small non-refundable deposit of ??10 to cover the fees as have been let down in the past by non paying bidders. Many thanks for looking.
