Up for Auction is this very rare 1958 FC Holden 217 Business sedan Army Staff car.Only of these FC 217 Army staff cars are known to survive in Australia and this is the only one of the two thats in original unrestored condition. These cars are said to be the rarest FC Holdens in the country. You will definitely not find another like this.It was purchased from the department of Defence in 1969 and had been stored in Victorian farm shed since 1970 it still has its last Victorian registration lable from 1970 on its window and has only 38,500 genuine miles on the speedo. Boot is full of parts and spares. It has the rare GMH factory body id plate specific for factory built 217 Business sefan Army vehicle still fitted and has never been removed. It has its original factory Army green paint which match the rarr factory paint code and factory brown interior that also matches this rare factory trim code.Paint has rust spots on it from 40 plus years of storage and the FC does have the usual underside rust and my plan was to repair the sub frame etc and buff the paint and clean it up replace all rubbers etc and leave it as is as its the only unrestored example remaining. The interior is original and is worth cleaning and saving.Comes with way radio and other genuine Department of Defence Millitary items specific to this car and the years 1957/58.It has very interesting history. The car is complete and have had it running but requires fuel/ vacuum pump rebuild.I was told the engine was reconditioned before being put into storage in 1970.The car does have rust and some dents but it can be repaired and tidied up without redoing the whole car if you want to leave it as an original display piece, paintless dent removal will get dents out and rust repair sections and touch up paint for underneath.Interior will clean up and can be saved.Alternatively you could do full restoration and have possible the rarest FC Holden in Australia.Pick up from Woodend Victoria.
On 03-Sep-17 at 09:26:15 AEST, seller added the following information:Very low Reserve set for this car considering how rare and hard to come by.On 03-Sep-17 at 09:33:50 AEST, seller added the following information:It has very low Melbourne build number.FC 217 65 MCar is complete and is an early 1958 model and one of first for Australian military in 1958.Used on and off base in Melbourne for Army officers.Has rare 24 hour Army clock also.Comes with original workshop manual and books. On 03-Sep-17 at 18:57:39 AEST, seller added the following information:Ive had lot of questions about the FC. Some silly and some genuine.#1 Is the car in Road worthy condition and could drive it home on permit?Answer:  No definitely NOT, not drive away car- it requires full restoration or you could try cosmetic restoration to try save its originality and Patina.Brakes and clutch need doing also.#2 How much rust is in it?Answer: The usual amount in barn find FC that was stored in an open fronted farm shed for over 40 years. It could do with sills- easy to fit and paint touch up as its down low.Subframe and under bits is an easy job and easy to touch up as its underneath and wont be seen.Bonnet edge at front and front gaurd peaks have rust but can be fixed and touched up with matched paint and blended to look like original paint.Overall paint can be buffed to get rust spots off. Its 60 year  old GMH paint.Chrome is pitted and old looking.Seats and door trims are good for 60 year old originals. Headlining has one tear about one inch long but can be vinyl welded. It has all glass. It Needs total going over as its been sitting for nearly 50 years!Boot floor is good around tank and tank area NOT rusted at all.Main floor pans are good, rust near edge of sill area only.#3 What Amy stuff does it have with it?Answer: 1958 Stamped Department of Defence oil filter.1957 Stamped Department of Defence fuel can and nozel. From memory its Westclox 1958 24 hour Army clock.1957 /58 PYE Way radio transmitter.1958 front mounted Water bags.Dash mount for holding objects.1958 Australian Army badges.1958 Victorian Millitary area maps.Large 13 plate Army battery tray.Side Pillar side switch for dome light.Delete rear hand rail and delete front interior light switches.Other Military items stampedD D.
In short its basically full restoration to most people but believe the interior and existing paint etc should be saved and the car left as is with its Patina. It will take alot of elbow grease to do it but it can be done. "Hand polishing" and cleaning everything. The engine is good, previous owner said it was rebuilt before it was put into the farm shed but dont know why as it had only 38,500 miles on it, it will need cosmetic paint etc new leads and plugs as it still has the genuine holden plugs and leads with HOLDEN stamped on lead ends.I expect the gearbox etc to only require servicing.New master and slave kits will be required, new windscreen rubbers and shockers etc etc etc, all the usual items.Only my opinion and that of few others. Its not car you can drive away!Sorry about that guys, if it was would be asking $40,000 instead. Its rare car and im not asking the world so please Do Not expect rust free, dent free FC drive away FC for $3800I believe what im asking is fair and im being honest about the car.Thank you.
