FAMILY OR BUSINESS CAR The Mazda6 is an exceptionally capable family car that's also tremendously good value for money if you're after family-sized hatchback then it should be near the top of your list. It's certainly one of the best looking hatches around with sporty and upmarket appearance while there's plenty of passenger space and huge boot too. There's great choice of engines available, including the superb 2.2-litre diesel one of the best diesel units around, while responsive steering and slick gear shift make it enjoyable to drive.Other traditional Mazda strengths remain it's solidly built, well equipped and is likely to hold its value. In 2010 Mazda gave the mild face light (new bumpers and lights), improved engines to lower CO2 emissions and upgraded trim levels.Based around 2.2-litre diesel engine, this car is 127bhp version that emits 138g/km of CO2. Although that doesn't sound like lot of horsepower in car this size, there's more than enough torque to get the car to motorway speeds with very little fuss. The Mazda ‘6 should appeal to drivers who value dynamic, fun-to-drive car that could be great family car too. The typically excellent Mazda driving position coupled with direct steering and fantastic six-speed manual gearbox means the car feels pretty rewarding to drive, even with such low power output.Happily, Mazda doesn't seem to have scrimped on the sound deadening either. trait you often see in cars designed for maximum efficiency, you're expected to live with noisier engine drone as by-product of the removal of some baffling in order to save weight. In this car the cabin is fairly quiet and pleasant place to be, and supportive seats mean it'll also remain comfortable when you're racking up the motorway miles.Other equipment on this model includes 17-inch alloys, sporty rear spoiler and choice of black, silver or blue paint schemes.
SAFETY FIRST4.5 out of 5 The Mazda6 was one of the first models to undergo Euro NCAPs more stringent crash tests in 2009. The new overall rating covers not only adult occupant safety but includes child and pedestrian safety along with rear impact whiplash test. It scored the maximum five star rating and all models come with traction control plus dual front, side and curtain airbags.Daytime running lights are also standard, which helps you to be seen in murkier weather. On the security front, all cars have That champ category one alarm and immobiliser system, while the top model gets keyless entry and start – allowing you to gain access to the car without taking the key out of your pocket or bag. New from 2009 is an optional blind spot safety system. When the car is travelling at more than 37mph, microwave emitters in the rear bumper detect when vehicles (including motorcycles) are approaching the rear-view blindspot area and warning light flashes in the windscreen pillar. If the driver indicates to pull out when the vehicle is in range, warning beep is sounded.
EQUIPMENT4 out of 5 The range is simple, easy to understand and reasonably well equipped. TS and TS2 are the specs to look out for – they have decent amount of equipment and offer good value for money. TS gets the multi function steering wheel that controls the stereo, heater and trip computer, while TS2 includes Bluetooth connectivity. high-spec Sports Luxury version is available on some engines, which includes full leather, premium Bose audio system, 18-inch alloys, xenon headlamps and front and rear parking sensors as standard. In 2009 the line-up was expanded with new entry-level model. Standard equipment is still good and includes 16-inch alloy wheels, remote central locking, air conditioning, 60/40 split folding rear seats and CD stereo. In 2010 Mazda upgraded the trim levels so that all models get smart turn indicators and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), TS, TS2 and Sport all get rear spoilers as standard, TS2 and Sport get front and rear parking sensors, and Hill Hold Assist as standard.
