In recent years, Porsche’s first-generation Type 930 Turbos (1975–1977) havebecome much sought-after by collectors. Much lighter and more visceral thantheir modern counterparts, these Turbo Carreras (as they were first dubbed inthe United States) were genuinely exciting automobiles. Exaggerated fenderflares and large rear deck spoiler announced that the Turbo Carrera was noordinary 911. The Turbo’s performance matched its looks; the turbochargedthree-liter air-cooled engine delivered its power through strengthenedfour-speed manual gearbox, and many were equipped with an optional limited-slipdifferential. These early Type 930s could accelerate to 60 mph in six secondsand top 155 mph.
There would be only 727 North American-specification Turbos built and sold formodel year 1977. Its factory-issued Certificate of Authenticity notes that thisstunning example left the factory in March of 1977. Wearing Oak GreenMetallic (Y4) paint with Dark Green leather interior, it was luxuriouslyequipped for the Canadian market, including tinted glass, electric windows, airconditioning, power-adjustable and heated outside mirrors, high-pressure headlightwashers, and rear window wiper. Additional options included electric sunroof,exterior mirror right, and Pirelli high-performance tires.
This Turbo Carrera completed production March 1977 and was supplied byVolkswagen Canada to Heimrath Porsche in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada who soldit to the first owner May 1977. Based on service invoices that accompany thiscar we acquired it from the third owner who has owned the car since June 1986.The car just completed engine head refurbishment which included new pistonrings, repair all oil leaks, new clutch and fresh fluids at cost of$16,671.00. The car runs and drives very well. Complete service records fromnew accompany the car. Today, this magnificent 1977 Turbo Carrera shows just 117,611 original kilometers. The car received glass in re-spray approximately 15 years ago. The interioris all original including carpets, dash and leather. It is supplied with itsoriginal tool roll, jack, spare tire, and factory Owner’s Manual and WarrantyBook in maroon vinyl slipcase.
