FOR SALER8 GORDINI This 1968 fully restored R8Gordini is offered for sale to the classic Renault enthusiast. R8G was purchased by currentowner at Shannon’s Melbourne auction in September 2013 for $27,500, havinghad three previous owners. The immediatepast owner loved Gordi for over 25 years before having to reluctantly sell atthe auction. “Gordi” was in reasonableshape but needed quite bit of repair and restoration to be an enjoyable dailydrive and to participate in classic racing events. The restoration was done byRay Watson at Gecko Engineering over an 18 month period and included thefollowing: BODY Gordi was completely strippedbefore media blast. This revealed verysound body with very little rust but had some damage on the driver side pillar. PAZ Automotive Spray Paintingwas commissioned to do the necessary repairs and respray in Gordini Blue. The result is stunning looking as newGordini body. Total cost of for body andpanels was $24,500. All rubber seals were replacedfor doors and windows. ENGINE The engine has beencompletely restored with all new parts, where available, and used parts sourcedfrom around the world which were then serviced and brought back to as newstandard. The new parts include thepistons and liners, cam shaft and followers, gaskets etc. With new exhaust and mufflerfrom Auto Bleu Gordi sounds awesome and drives easily in traffic, on the open roadand on the track. MegaJolt electronic ignitionwas added after initial restoration. This transformed the Gordi into an even easier and well behaved car todrive. GEARS and SUSPENSION The gears, clutch and runninggear were fully stripped, serviced and repaired where necessary. There was not much work required as all werein good condition. ELECTRICALS The wiring loom was replacedwith new one. Fuses were modified andrelays added to modern electrical standards. WHEELS AND TYRES The Gordini wheels withMichelin XAS tyres are in very good condition. There is also set of fourBrahim rims included in the sale. These came from Renault A110 with near new DunlopSP Sport 200 175/65 tyres. Both 15 inch wheels. OTHER In preparation for historicracing roll cage was and retro style racing seat plus four point racingharness were fitted. These are removableto restore Gordi back to original seats. There is also car coverthat had made for Gordi. There is also range ofspares that came with the car plus original exhaust and muffler. The restoration in includingpaint, panel parts and labour was over $100,000. But the result was worth it. Now due to changingcircumstances it is time to offer Gordi to Renault enthusiast who appreciatesa car famous in Australian rally history and legend in European racing.
